Beatriz Neila fought and achieved a weekend-best fourth-place performance in Race 2 at Cremonda, for Round 4 of the FIM Women’s Circuit Racing World Championship in Italy today.
The 22-year-old Spanish rider for Ampito / Pata Prometeon Yamaha was not quite able to mirror her podium pace as demonstrated against the top riders in the championship this time out. With a wet Free Practice on Friday, there was less time to build a confident pace on track compared to the first three rounds. A solid Superpole qualifying on Friday netted fifth place on the grid for Race 1 and the same position at the chequered flag for Race 1 on Saturday.
On Sunday, Neila, with the support of the team including Pata Prometeon Yamaha Crew Chief and two-time FIM World Supersport Champion Andrew Pitt, built her speed to fight in the final race of the weekend against eventual podium-finisher Tayla Relph and wild card entry Avalon Lewis across the 12-lap feature. With a yellow flag caused by a dramatic clash involving the four riders in front, Neila was unable to find an opportunity to attack Relph on the final lap and crossed the line close behind in fourth place.
Two rounds remain in the inaugural WorldWCR series exclusively for women, Estoril and Jerez back-to-back next month – starting from 11-13 October in Portugal. Neila lies in fourth position in the overall standings, 21 points shy of the bronze-medal position with plenty of points left to play for.
Beatriz Neila – SP: P5 / Race 1: P5 / Race 2: P4
“This weekend was difficult for me, I didn’t find a good step in performance in qualifying so we tried a different set-up for Warm Up and Race 1 on Saturday but I didn’t feel confident to really fight – and I finished the race in fifth position. But, we kept working for today and the feeling was completely different, I liked it and I did my best lap time of the weekend. For that, I am happy but for the rest, it was a little bit strange – maybe I need to work on my training and practice on the bike to improve and be more consistent in Free Practice, Superpole and Warm Up to prepare better for the races. The team worked a lot for me this weekend and I want to say thanks to all of them and to Ampito for their support. Now, I will work on myself and I hope to be able to fight more in Estoril for the top positions.”
